Queen Bee/Easy Action @ the Magic Stick 07/28/2001

This was one of the busiest weekends in Detroit for the entire summer.  A short listing of shows for this weekend included the 4th Street Fair, the Indy 500, a great show at the Gold Dollar and the Michigan Punk Fest.  Because of some unfortunate planning on my part - this was the only show that I could make, but it sure was worth it.

The evening started off with me getting together with a bunch of old friends to see a rare Tiger victory at Comerica Park.  The worst part about meeting old friends is you have to re-learn how bad their taste in music has become.  After a few drinks I realized that this group of guys was never going to get enough initiative to listen to anything more than crappy dance music, so it was time to cut the reunion short and head down to the Magic Stick.

I missed the Dragstrippers, but was there just in time to see the new improved Queen Bee with Rachel May from Broadzilla in the band now.  They did an excellent job as I have not seen them for quite a while.

Easy Action came on and once again managed to require both a replacement amp and guitar within the first four songs.  These minor setbacks were quickly taken care and the boys ripped through their usual great set.  This time, they included Roxy Music's "The In Crowd" in tribute to the Roxy Music reunion show at Pine Knob the same weekend.  As usual, the show ended much too quickly and it was time to go home.  However, I was very happy to see that the deli downstairs had pizza, as there is nothing better than grabbing a quick slice before heading home.
