Easy Action/Hentchmen/Buzzards on 6/23/2001
Unfortunately the above billing was not one show or I would probably still be there jumping up and down and screaming for another encore. Easy Action was playing at the Magic Stick opening up for Foetus. I got there in plenty of time to see yet another fine set by these stalwarts of Detroit. I was happy to see that there were quite of few other people piling up to the front of the stage as Easy Action started playing. After the Easy Action show, I decided, due to my frail emotional state, to pass on Foetus and head down to the Gold Dollar for a "garage" rock battle of the bands.
This was probably a wise choice for me, as the double bill of the Hentchmen and Buzzards are enough to chase away most of your problems. The format was pretty cool too - each band played a miniset of 5 songs and then the other band took the stage. Each set grew more intense as the competition heated up and the clear winner were obviously the audience.
Special treats, such as guest vocalists, spiced up the evening and the show dragged out well past closing time. As I dragged my old, sweaty body back to the car after all of this bopping around - I could only hope that I will be able to recover before next weekend.
P.S. The Hentchmen also released their new 45, entitled "Creep of the Year/Teenage Letter", which should be available in all of the finer shops around town soon.
