Stiff Little Fingers, Gang Green & ALD @ the 7th House

Well, after all these years Stiff Little Fingers finally makes it to Detroit. I know that we have a bad reputation around the world but this is ridiculous. Actually they're playing up in Pontiac, but what's 30 miles of driving in the Motor City. It is my first trip up to the 7th House, which is located in stretch of Pontiac that is trying to compete with Royal Oak for "most trendy bars for white suburbanites who are afraid to go to Detroit". After all of this, I have to admit that the 7th House was worth the trip. After the obligatory weapons search the reassuring smell of beer, smoke and sweat meant that this place would be fun.

Unfortunately I missed ALD, but from seeing them in the past - I can vouch that they're fantastic. Last year they stole the show at the Orbit party downtown & made me a life-long fan by dedicating a song to Brendan Shanahan & Darren McCarty after the Wings had beaten the crap out of Colorado & that gutless nobody called Claude Lemiux. If the Wings had a team band - then ALD would have their name on the cup too.

Gang Green put on a great show also - their signature sing "Alcohol" was accompanied by about 5 fans hanging on the mikes and singing along with the band. Speaking of alcohol - they need to get a couple of kegs into this place. This procedure of 2 bartenders trying to serve 100 thirsty customers by pouring beer out of a bottle into a plastic cup needs to be automated.

Stiff Little Fingers finally made their way up to the stage and apologized for missing Detroit before. They made good on their apology by putting on a blistering show. Some of the highlights included "Alternative Ulster". "Barb Wire Love" and their killer second encore - "Suspect Device". I would remember more songs but I was too busy jumping up and down and screaming. The place was packed and both Gang Green & SLF said that this was best show on their tour. Hopefully, the Lions will make my next trip up to Pontiac just as much fun.
