White Stripes Conquer England

Well, it looks like our beloved White Stripes can do no wrong.  Fresh from a really cool appearance on the Greg Kilbourne show and armed with massive critical acclaim - Jack and Meg White wasted no time in storming through merry old England.

The August 11th issue of the New Musical Express slapped our heroes from Detroit right on the cover and then the hype started.

Within the following weeks the White Stripes were written up in all sorts of British papers including the The Mirror, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Times, The Guardian and Daily Mail.  With their particular flair for understatement these papers included the following headlines:

"The Greatest Band since the Sex Pistols..." (The Mirror)

"The Great White Hope of Pop?" (The Telegraph)

"Stripes are Stars" (The Sun)

Fresh from this onslaught the August 18th issue of the New Musical Express followed up with another couple of pages on our local duo with the following caption: "Britain goes White Stripes crazy".

And I thought that headlining at the Gold Dollar was a big thing!  In spite of the British papers' penchant for hype - I was very pleased that the sales of the White Stripes new album "White Blood Cells" is actually living up to all of this.

As of August 28th, "White Blood Cells", which has gotten almost no promotion is now at #9 in the Independent charts and #58 in the Top 100.  Yes, the White Stripes are sitting right between U2 and Bob Marley on the British charts!!!

Congratulations - Jack & Meg !
